Beating the January Blues

We're almost halfway through January now but there's still  a long way to go until Spring is here. Now that Christmas is over, the cold, grey, and rainy days of Winter can easily get you down. I have put together a few things that cheer me up when I'm feeling a bit 'bleurgh'. They're nothing groundbreaking, but just a few ideas- feel free to add more of your own in the comments! 

MOVE
It's really hard to get enthusiastic about exercising when it's raining and cold, but you don't need to leave your house! Do 50 sit ups when you wake up (even better, stay in bed to do them and it warms you up, making it easier to get out!), watch some Youtube exercise videos, or try my favourite at-home workout. I joined the gym in December and it makes me feel so good after a sesh, and I started a new Pinterest board this week to get me inspired here.


IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS
Paint your nails! Play some feel good music. Get up 10 minutes earlier and cook yourself pancakes on a Wednesday.


GET OUTSIDE
Wrap yourself in a humungous scarf, put on those gloves and boots and walk. Fresh air makes you feel so much better. 


GET INSPIRED
Start a new Pinterest board! Nice quotes, pretty pictures, inspiring art. You name it.


TREAT YOURSELF
People are too hard on themselves in January - detoxing, resolutions, 'dry January' - it's overwhelming! Make yourself a nice salted caramel hot chocolate. I haven't tried it yet but it's on my list to do! I'm having a hot chocolate and marshmallows tonight, nom. 


STAY WARM
Sounds obvious, but being cold is the worst thing. Wear a zillion layers even if you look like a yeti. And cosy socks are THE BEST. I wore 2 pairs of thick hiking socks all day yesterday.


WAKE UP EARLY
And go out for breakfast! It's so easy to sleep until late morning on a weekend, but as the days are so short at the moment, it means you get hardly any sunlight. Alex and I woke up early to have breakfast at Jamie Oliver's Recipease this weekend and it made the day seem so much longer. You can still have your lie in on the other day :)


SOCIALISE
Go out for a cocktail or two or cook dinner for friends. It makes you feel so much better and helps gets you out of a bad mood you might be in. 


COOK
This is the time of year to hide away in your kitchen and baaaake! Or experiment with those recipes you bookmarked 6 months ago. Plus, as I've discovered, standing by the oven keeps you warm.


PLAN
Book a holiday or a weekend break to look forward to.


EMBRACE STAYING IN
Light a smelly candle, curl up under a blanket, and read a book or watch a movie.
